
Our good friends and neighbors at
Whole Earth have been carrying our delicious beans for years now, and when room opened up for another bin on their shelf, they asked us if we had anything new and exciting to offer. Since the coffees they already carry (Organic Love Blend, Organic Sumatran, and their own custom Whole Earth Blend) all feature our East Coast Roast*, we decided to give them a nice, crispy dark roast.
Roasting past full caramelization and into the smoky world of carbonization requires a high density bean that can take the extra heat. We settled on a High Grown, Organic, Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee from Oaxaca in Mexico, and love the taste we are getting out of this bean. Then we just needed a name: it may not be politically correct, but it is the Crispy Hippie.
*beans are roasted to precisely the point of maximum complexity, and flavor nuances unique to each type of coffee are highlighted and enhanced, rather than obscured by the smokiness of a darker roast or left undeveloped by a light roast.
